Maker Faire NYC Reinstated My Faith in Humanity.
Why, you may ask? Well, I’m going to answer with links: Lumarca by Matt Parker, Albert Hwang, and Elliot Woods is a gorgeously simple/complicated 3D projector. Eric Singer’s Lemur makes beautiful music beautifully. The EyeWriter seeks to empower a paralyzed graffiti artist. Orbotix makes adorable spheres controlled via smartphone. Dan Wilcox wouldn’t explain robotcowboy to me but it sure looked interesting!
Mind you, these are only the folks I got cards for. I was amazed by the chariot races, the ferro-fluids, the remote controlled gliders, and the Madagascar Institute. This was my second Maker Faire and certainly not my last.

Sorry for not explaining robotcowboy. You caught me at one of my most depressed times of the faire. It was hard to maintain enthusiasm after a morning of constantly being asked “What’s this?” delivered not as a question but as a challenge, as if I have to justify their attention for 10 seconds after putting so much time and effort into something I feel should be very obvious. I think if you had asked me anything else, I would have responded much differently.
I was my first time with the project in this context and was a bit surprised that most people didn’t seem to get what I was doing. In the future, I would try to get official demo times or play on one of the stages as this is the best way to show my music/art project at a science fair.
Thank you for the comment, it means a lot! I understand your stress, people can be hellish. Your work seemed interesting even from a purely aesthetic standpoint, which is why it’s mentioned in this post, and I hope you continue to show the piece (and when you do, let me know where!)
